Last night i went to the Asian Art Museum After Hours event.
this place was beautiful. and the event was beautiful. and the guests were beautiful. they were mostly the YAPPIE types (Young Asian Professionals), with a few other YUPPIES (Young Urban Professionals) sprinkled around. so yes everyone was nicely dressed and nicely groomed, ready to look and to be looked at.
the exhibits were nice although i have one criticism. if it only shows Ancient Asian Art, shouldn't it be called the Ancient Asian Art Museum? I have a small problem with how they are portraying asian art to the general public. i mean if i were a tourist coming into San Francisco and i came to visit the Asian Art Museum. If all i see is ancient asian art, i would say to myself "hmm. so i guess modern/contemporary asian artists don't exist huh?"
yeah as a modern asian artist myself, looking for asian artist role models is hard enough. it's even harder when my museum tells the world that there aren't any modern asian artists around. basically telling the world that people like me do not exist.
and! i heard the only had two pieces from the Philippines. man, i feel like rodney dangerfield.
but for $20, i got admission to the museum, a nice dinner, and unlimited drinks. they hooked me up. so i'll shut up now.
