lately, i've been challenged with creating an Artist Statement
http://www.sierra-arts.net/ANN_BALDWIN_September2003.html
for my new abstract series.
if you know me you know that it's hard for me to write about my art
but i know, i know
an artist statement helps the world understand what i do and why i do
and how i do.
so here's a draft of my Artist Statement for my new body of work:
After my college years, i was finally able to buy a pair of glasses. Finally I saw my surroundings in all it's vivid beauty. This was the first time that i fully appreciated the colors of the world. Not the shapes or the lines of the world, I was always able to see shapes and lines and I was trained to interpret them through drawings since i was seven years old, but the colors. I really started loving the colors.
I constantly noticed the many colors that were presented to me everyday, from the blue sky to the green trees and diverse flower gardens. I also deeply appreciated the photography and art that captured and presented these images. I wished that I could do the same with my own hands.
After a few years of procastination and contemplation, I finally found enough courage to abandon line and form in order to focus entirely on color. Color that is inspired by my environment.
The product is called The Harmony Series - a body of close up impressionistic paintings derived from the beautiful colors of the world.
.... and i guess that's where my train of thought ends...
oh wehll. i guess i'll think about this some more..
